March 12, 2019 | Written by Ben Youngerman, ArtsQuest Marketing Manager

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Steve Miller has been an enlivening presence on the American music scene for more than half a century. In the ’70s, he crafted a brand of pure pop that was smart, polished, exciting and irresistible – and that dominated radio in a way that few artists have ever managed. In the course of his long career, Miller has sold tens of millions of records and his music has been streamed more than two billion times.

Before Steve Miller Band and Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives headline the Wind Creek Steel Stage at PNC Plaza on August 3, let’s listen back to seven of Steven’s most classic songs…

“The Joker”

Though the Steve Miller Band released its first album in 1968, the group’s big breakthrough came with 1973’s “The Joker”. The title track off of the band’s album The Joker was their first #1 hit, catapulting them to full-fledged rock stars.

“Fly Like An Eagle”

This soaring track was Steve Miller Band’s second song to be certified “Gold” in the U.S.

“Abracadabra”

The second #1 single on our list is a magical hit from 1982 with a quintessential ’80s music video.

“Rock’n Me”

This #1 track will keep on rocking you on a road trip all the way to Tacoma (and to Musikfest)!

“Take the Money and Run”

In addition to “Fly Like An Eagle” and “Rock’n Me”, “Take the Money and Run” was another big hit off of the 1976 album Fly Like An Eagle.

“Jet Airliner”

Written by Paul Pena in 1973 but released by Steve Miller Band in 1977, this Top 10 hit is the perfect song to listen to while gazing out the window on a cross-country flight.

“Swingtown”

That synth hook in “Swingtown” will have you out of your seats and dancing at the ‘fest!
