Following three preliminary rounds of competition, six area high school jazz bands have advanced to the finals of the 2020 SteelStacks High School Jazz Band Showcase presented by King, Spry, Herman, Freund & Faul, LLC.
The showcase will be taped and broadcasted on 69-WFMZ-TV! Tickets for the finals are $7 plus fees and on sale at www.steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.
Scholastic jazz groups from Pennsylvania and New Jersey performed in front of a live audience and a judging panel comprised of music educators this February and March. The finalists are:
Easton High School
Phillipsburg High School
North Penn High School Navy Jazz Band
Freedom High School
Kutztown High School
Quakertown Community High School
During the finals, each band will perform a 20-minute set before a live audience and the judges. The event will also include a performance by the Moravian College Big Band, as well as the official awards presentation for the competition’s top soloists and sections.
The showcase is made possible in 2020 in part by a $20,000 National Endowment for the Arts Art Works grant supporting ArtsQuest’s jazz programming for the region. The competition is a music-in-education program of ArtsQuest and the Moravian College Music Department’s Jazz Studies Program.
