Over the past two decades, the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra (HRO) has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls, jazz festivals and events, including Lincoln Center/Mid-Summer Night Swing, The Apollo Theater, Cape May Jazz Festival, The Philadelphia Arts Center, the infamous Copacabana and more. They have also appeared in various films and videos, including an HBO special on the life of swing dance innovator Frankie Manning. HRO is dedicated to keeping the spirit of Big Band Swing Music alive and thriving. Whether in a live performance or educating the next generation of musicians, they remain a guardian and proponent feature of a great musical tradition.
Don’t know how to swing? No problem! Gas House Dance Hall dance instructors will be on the 24 x 24 Levitt Lawn dance floor starting at 6:30 p.m. each day of SouthSide Swing (July 18-20).
